How to Choose the Right Helmet Size

Finding the correct helmet size is essential for safety, comfort, and performance — whether you’re hitting the trails, the track, or the open road. A helmet that fits properly not only provides maximum protection but also ensures better focus and control while riding.

Step 1: Measure Your Head

Using a soft measuring tape, measure the circumference of your head one inch (2.5 cm) above your eyebrows, wrapping it around the widest part of your head — just above the ears and around the back. This gives you the most accurate measurement for helmet sizing.

If you don’t have a flexible measuring tape, use a piece of string, then measure it flat against a ruler.

Step 2: Compare with the Size Chart

Once you have your measurement in centimetres, use the general sizing chart below to find your ideal helmet size:

Size Head Circumference (cm)
XXS 51 – 52 cm
XS 53 – 54 cm
S 55 – 56 cm
M 57 – 58 cm
L 59 – 60 cm
XL 61 – 62 cm
XXL 63 – 64 cm

If your measurement falls between two sizes, it’s generally best to choose the smaller size, as helmets should fit snugly without causing pressure points. A properly fitted helmet will feel firm around your cheeks and jaw and should not move when you shake your head.

Step 3: Check the Fit After selecting your size, try the helmet on and check the following: The helmet sits evenly on your head and low on your forehead. It feels snug all around without being uncomfortably tight. The cheek pads touch your face firmly but don’t press too hard. The helmet doesn’t shift when you move your head. The chin strap can be fastened securely with minimal slack.

Step 4: Wear It Right A well-fitting helmet will slightly “bed in” after a few rides, moulding to your head shape for a custom fit. If it feels loose right away, it’s likely too large and won’t provide proper protection in the event of an impact.
